Focus Groups with Graduate Students
to Assess Library Needs
The LibQUAL + service survey carried out
in 2002 indicated that there was room for improvements
to services and collections for graduate students -
and we're listening! As a result of meetings with Dean
John Lennox, Associate Dean Sharon Murphy, and Graduate
Student Association President Matthew Hayes, Toni Olshen
of the York Libraries will be asking graduate program
directors for assistance in identifying interested graduate
student participants for focus groups on the library
and its services - so please help us to make this initiative
a success!
We need to explore what specific changes
can be made to improve service quality for this target
group of users. As a start - and based on the survey
results - we have already made some significant improvements,
such as adding AirYork wireless network access in all
library graduate student offices and automatically granting
extended loan privileges to all PhD students. But we
know that more can be done, and as faculty teaching
in the graduate program, your interest and assistance
in helping us to identify and meet graduate students'
library service needs will be greatly appreciated.
