New Access to eResources From Home
York University Libraries have implemented
a new and simpler way to access eResources from home.
The new way, called EZ-Proxy, does not require that
your browser be configured in any special way. We have
found that EZ-Proxy solves some connection problems,
makes resources available using the AOL browser, and
works well with both PCs and Macs.
To access eResources from home you must
use the new proxy server! The old proxy server was discontinued
on July 31, 2003. Now you must use EZ-Proxy if you are
using an Internet Service Provider other than York.
Using eResources From Home
To use the library's eResources from home
(including indexes, databases and full text electronic
journals), you must be a registered York faculty member,
student, or staff member. You will need a library card
number and PIN. Many of the Libraries' resources and
services are licensed from database vendors. Part of
our license with these vendors requires that we restrict
access to current York faculty, students and staff.
To accomplish this, the vendor checks the IP address
of each request for service and determines if the user
is in the yorku.ca IP Domain.
You can use the link below to set up access
through EZ-Proxy to eResources from off campus. To use
EZ-Proxy, your browser must accept cookies. When you
go to log in to EZ-Proxy, you will enter the following
information on the screen provided:
User ID: Library Barcode Number (Beginning
with 29007...)
PIN: 4 digit PIN number (Forgot your PIN?) Find
it here.
Please note that you will need to sign
in for each new browser session, meaning that you can
use EZ-proxy all day and only have to sign on and authenticate
once, as long as you keep your browser open. Some browsers
will remember your login ID and password for you.
For full instructions on making the switch
to EZ-Proxy, go to the library website and click on
Use eResources at Home under eResources. For technical
troubleshooting, please contact the CNS helpdesk at
helpdesk@yorku.ca or 416-736-5800.
