Kent Haworth Memorial Fellowship
In memory of York University Archivist
Kent Haworth (1946-2003), the Kent Haworth Memorial
Fellowship has been funded by colleagues, friends and
family.
Kent enjoyed a distinguished career spanning
more than 30 years including significant contributions
to the Canadian Rules for Archival Description and substantial
input to Canadian and international descriptive standards
efforts. He served as the first director for records
management in the BC government, headed the University
of Toronto Archives and the government records section
of the Public Archives of Nova Scotia. Kent joined York
University in 1994, where his leadership helped to build
a substantial archival collection focused in the areas
of Canadian history and literature, Canadian women,
the fine arts and social reform movements.
In both professional and personal aspects
of his life, Kent was a compassionate person who loved
life and enriched those who knew him.

The Kent Haworth Memorial Fellowship is
designed to honour Kent's career in perpetuity, as well
as his wish for greater recognition of the value of
archival collections. The award will be presented annually
to a talented doctoral candidate from anywhere in the
world who is seeking access to York's archival holdings.
The goal of the fellowship is $25,000.
Since the fellowship was established only a few short
months ago, contributions have reached $18,600+, a testament
to the esteem in which Kent's colleagues held him.
You may make a contribution to the Kent
Haworth Memorial Fellowship by contacting Jim Allen,
