New Reading and Study Space in Scott

A new 12,000 square foot reading room on the second floor of the Scott Library is scheduled to open in Fall 2003.

The existing flooring and lighting in the space are being replaced. The new lighting is designed to emanate a soft glow that is more conducive to studying and reading. In addition, an acoustical masking system is being installed to suppress individual noise in the large room. The system, installed above the ceiling tiles, dramatically reduces the distance over which conversations and noises are understood or heard, providing increased speech privacy, concentration and acoustic comfort.

The facility will have an assortment of soft seating and collaborative study tables, as well as electrical outlets, wireless access and network drops for laptops.

Instruction and Group Study Rooms

The two small library instruction rooms have been relocated from the main entrance to larger, more flexible space on the fifth floor and the old instructional areas on the main floor are being reconfigured to accommodate 12 additional group study rooms. There will now be a total of 18 group study rooms of various sizes in Scott Library. Students can now reserve a room online through the library website.
