Chief Information Officer's Message

The realm of information technology is of course an ever-changing one. Over the past number of months, Computing and Network Services, together with the other technology support groups on campus, has worked to put new services and supports in place to assist you in your use of technology. We hope that you will find this issue of News U Can Use a useful introduction to a few of the recent changes.

York has made a significant commitment to improve the technology in classrooms. We now have some of the best-equipped classrooms in Ontario -- and indeed, visitors to York from around the world are consistently impressed by the kind of thought that has gone into the design of our "e-classrooms". This fall fully a quarter of our classrooms and lecture halls now have presentation and display technology built in. You'll find articles in the newsletter that will give you an overview of some of this new technology.

You'll also find in this newsletter, introductions to some of the new emerging technologies that some are beginning to find useful in their teaching and learning. We hope that you'll have the opportunity to explore some of these and help us move forward with your experiences and suggestions.

Bob Gagne
CIO and Executive Director CNS
