Online Tutorials for Students
Promoting academic integrity through
critical thinking, writing and research skills
York University Libraries and the Centre
for the Support of Teaching have collaborated to offer
the following online tutorials for students: the Academic
Integrity Tutorial, The Library Research Roadmap and
the Pre-Writing Strategies Tutorial. The first two tutorials
include a self-test allowing students to gauge their
understanding of the topic - for more information see
the YQuiz article in this newsletter.
Academic Integrity Tutorial
This tutorial is designed to help students
learn more about issues of academic integrity, including
plagiarism and related matters, with specific examples.
It includes strategies to improve academic efforts and
avoid committing academic offenses. The tutorial takes
up to 30 minutes to complete.
Library Research Roadmap
This is a self-guided introduction to
bibliographic research methods in the social sciences
and humanities. It is aimed primarily at undergraduates
and takes about 20 minutes to complete. An optional
quiz feature allows students to test what they have
learned.
Pre-Writing Strategies Tutorial
This tutorial presents ideas and techniques
to get students started on essay writing assignments,
including strategies for understanding assignments,
exploring their own ideas about a topic, gathering ideas
from readings, organizing rough notes and developing
a thesis. Does not include a quiz (under development).
