Online Tutorials for Students

Promoting academic integrity through critical thinking, writing and research skills

York University Libraries and the Centre for the Support of Teaching have collaborated to offer the following online tutorials for students: the Academic Integrity Tutorial, The Library Research Roadmap and the Pre-Writing Strategies Tutorial. The first two tutorials include a self-test allowing students to gauge their understanding of the topic - for more information see the YQuiz article in this newsletter.

Academic Integrity Tutorial

This tutorial is designed to help students learn more about issues of academic integrity, including plagiarism and related matters, with specific examples. It includes strategies to improve academic efforts and avoid committing academic offenses. The tutorial takes up to 30 minutes to complete.

Library Research Roadmap

This is a self-guided introduction to bibliographic research methods in the social sciences and humanities. It is aimed primarily at undergraduates and takes about 20 minutes to complete. An optional quiz feature allows students to test what they have learned.

Pre-Writing Strategies Tutorial

This tutorial presents ideas and techniques to get students started on essay writing assignments, including strategies for understanding assignments, exploring their own ideas about a topic, gathering ideas from readings, organizing rough notes and developing a thesis. Does not include a quiz (under development).
