Acadlabs Accounts Now Needed to Use Most Library Computers

Now, most computers in the York University Libraries will require all users, whether faculty, staff or students, to authenticate through an Acadlabs account login.

Why a login is now required

The new authentication process is part of a campus-wide effort to maintain the security of the computing network. As well, it ensures that members of the York University community have primary access to the computers in the Libraries. By logging in, computer users undertake to respect the Senate Policy on Computing and Information Technology Facilities.

How to set up an Acadlabs account

All York University community members are entitled to an Acadlabs account. To activate an Acadlabs account you will need a Passport York username and password.

Problems with setting up accounts may be referred to Computing & Network Services Client Support Services (helpdesk@yorku.ca); 416-736-5800 or on campus at 55800; or visit the Helpdesk in the Computing Commons, William Small Centre or the TEL Computing Commons, 1017 TEL Building).

Different computers for different uses

Some library computers allow only access to the library catalogue; others have more features and software for research and study activities, and some don't require the Acadlabs login. The following labels show what is available on each library computer and whether a login is required.

ACADLABS LOGIN REQUIRED: These computers will provide full access to the Internet and library resources but require an Acadlabs login.

ACADLABS LOGIN REQUIRED - MS WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT: Some of the computers in each library that require an Acadlabs login also allow access to some Microsoft Office software. In Scott Library, these can be found on the second and third floors and, when available for drop-in use, in the fifth floor Computer Classrooms.

OPEN ACCESS: A small number of computers, usually found near the reference desk in each of the York Libraries, will provide full access to the Internet and library resources without the necessity of logging in. If necessary, Acadlabs accounts may be set up using these computers.

CATALOGUE EXPRESS: At least one computer on each floor of Scott Library will not require a login, but will allow access only to the York University Libraries Catalogue.

Questions?

If you have questions about the new login or what you can access on a computer, please ask a librarian at any York University Libraries reference desk for more information.
