Conferencing at York gets better!
Facilities at Stedman Lecture Halls have been upgraded
for Fall 2004.
Videoconferencing
Two studios and one lecture hall in Stedman
are now available for events by videoconference such
as meetings, lectures, research collaboration, thesis
presentations or job interviews. Videoconferencing allows
groups at different sites with this technology to communicate
in live sessions using voice and video and - in some
cases - additional tools to allow sharing of documents
and presentations.

Stedman Studio A |
- Stedman Studio A can be configured for small
group sessions or for up to 50 persons with a presentation
podium for the instructor.
- Stedman Studio B is for small groups of up
to 8 persons.
- Stedman D is a 265 seat lecture hall that
is wired into the videoconference control room.

The videoconference equipment available
in Stedman includes Access
Grid in Studio A, and Polycom in both studios and
lecture hall D. These technologies are compatible with
conferences over IP and over ISDN telephone lines so
that sites with different capabilities can communicate
effectively with one another. In some instances, up
to three videoconference sites can be bridged together
using ITC equipment. Larger conferences involving four
or more external sites can be arranged through an off
campus bridge. ITC normally does a pre-test with the
remote site to ensure compatibility and quality.
Some videoconferences can be streamed
on the web simultaneously, and archived for viewing
later.
Audio conferencing
Audio conferences in both Stedman Studios
A and B can be configured using hands-free equipment.
The audio conference can be combined with an internet-ready
computer to provide technology for training groups off-site.
Satellite links
ITC maintains both a C band and KU band
satellite dish, and downlink capability is available
in Stedman Studio B.
