Excellent Universities have Excellent Libraries

Recent developments at YUL

York University Libraries provide a world-class library with rich collections, value-added services, excellent librarians and knowledgeable & pleasant staff. Several new developments at York University Libraries will facilitate and enrich your research and teaching at York this year:

  • Last year we introduced RefWorks, our web-based bibliographic citation software. This year we present RefShare, a RefWorks component that will let you share your RefWorks folders with research partners or your students (e.g., as lists of electronic journal articles that students may be required to read for your courses).

  • Graduate students will have a designated, newly renovated quiet reading room on the fourth floor of Scott Library. Please share this news with your graduate students! The Graduate Student Reading Room should be available for use by the end of September.

  • In the spring of 2006, York University Libraries will be playing a part in York’s support of Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest annual academic gathering in Canada. Beyond providing services, we are working with campus partners to highlight recent publications by York University faculty.

  • RACER , a new library resource sharing system being used by all Ontario university libraries, has been introduced at York this fall. The new system allows interlibrary loan users the ability to search multiple library catalogues at the same time and track progress of their requests . New users of RACER will need to complete a RACER registration before submitting ILL requests.

More changes are planned, and we’ll keep you up to date on developments of interest via the Libraries website.

I welcome your suggestions for further library improvements and any questions or concerns you may have about the libraries.

Have a very successful academic year!

-- Cynthia Archer, University Librarian
