Greetings

Greetings from the University Librarian

University Librarian C. Archer

Spring 2004

Good communication is very important for all organizations, and we are sending you this newsletter to inform you about some of the things we have been doing to support your research and teaching. I encourage you, in turn, to communicate with us about any needs you may have for library resources and services or any improvements you might like to see.

In 2003-2004, over $200,000 in additional funds were allocated to strengthen our monograph collections. During the summer, we will be adding a number of new print journal subscriptions. Do you have access to the library resources needed to be successful in your teaching and research? Does the library know which titles are important to you? If not or you're not sure, please speak with your liaison librarian.

This year, several librarians have been working closely with faculty members in research projects such as the Gender and Work Database project. Another librarian has been co-instructing (with a faculty member) a course in the Professional Writing program. Are you taking full advantage of the expertise of our librarians to enrich and facilitate your curriculum and research projects? Again, please contact your liaison librarian.

If you have a need for particular books, journals, or other kinds of library resources, your liaison librarian may well be able to obtain them. If you would like a class for your students on finding and evaluating information necessary for writing their papers or a workshop on using particular library research tools, your liaison librarian may be able to arrange it.

If you are not sure who your liaison librarian is, please see the current list on the Libraries' website. The liaison librarians at York University are talented people - some of the best librarians in Canada work at York. I encourage you to meet your liaison librarian, let them know your interests, and see what they can do for you.
