More Computer Availability for Students in Scott Library

The Libraries have made available for student drop-in use over fifty computers in the library instruction rooms on the 5th floor of Scott Library (Rooms 530 & 531 Scott) at times during the day when the rooms are not scheduled for library classes. Workstations are intended for individual research, writing and activities related to academic endeavors. Please note that these rooms are for student use only - they cannot be booked for class use by faculty or teaching assistants. This service is in pilot phase to the end of April 2004 and will be again from September through December 2004.

Scott Library Instruction Room The rooms are open Monday to Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., until April 30, 2004, with the exception of times when they will be closed to drop-in use in order to accommodate library classes. The detailed schedule can be checked on the Libraries' website at http://www.library.yorku.ca/labs.

Use of the computers requires log-in with an Acadlabs username and password. This gives students access to the Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It is possible for students to save their documents to their Acadlabs file space, to a diskette, to a CD, or to a USB memory key. Printing is also available in the rooms at 9 cents per page using a library copy card.

The rooms are staffed by student monitors who can offer assistance with the computers and software.
