Finding Buried Treasure: Library webpages uncover a wealth of specialized information

With the ever-expanding array of information resources at one's disposal, it's good to know that the information specialists at the York University Libraries are synthesizing volumes of information to bring you targetted research guides and specialized academic resources. And where do you find these treasures? They're available through library and library department webpages. Here is a selected review of some of the resources at your disposal:

Bronfman Library

The Bronfman Library has a number of webpages to assist faculty in their teaching and research activities. Here is a sampling of the wide variety of available business resources:

Business Guides
The business guides are designed to help your students to explore topics such as researching information on companies or industries; preparing business plans; and finding business articles, health industry management research, marketing or market share research.

Assignments
These webpages were prepared for specific business course assignments. Each guide is an introduction to sources used to research specific topics, such as business ethics, accounting issues, marketing, and so on. York Faculty who are interested in having a guide prepared for a course assignment are invited to contact a Bronfman Library Subject Specialist Librarian.

Business Online
The business collection includes reference materials, books, business journals, networked electronic indexes and full text databases, stand-alone CD-ROM databases, and reserves for Schulich School of Business courses and Atkinson Administrative Studies courses. The Business Online webpages contain descriptions and access information for key electronic business resources.

Frost Library, Glendon College

The Frost Library homepage offers bilingual access to the resources of this specialized library within the York University Libraries system. There are French and English web links and pathfinders to the collection, including links to the history of the Glendon Campus.

2) http://www.library.yorku.ca/ccm/Frost/francais/Web/index.htm
These sites are the gateway to both French and English search engines and websites that are academic in nature and helpful to students in researching their topics for papers.

The group of links at this site present access to locations that relate in some way to the understanding of French language and culture. Links are from around the world and reflect the totality of French culture whether it is found in France, Quebec, or anywhere in the "francophonie”.

Map Library

The Map Library website introduces patrons to its extensive cartographic research collections. This site provides a description of all the collections and information on how to access them. Of particular note are some of the historical resources, such as the Caribbean Collection and the Canadian Fire Insurance Plans (located through the Resource Guides link), and the digital geospatial collection, one of the Map Library's newest and fastest growing collections. Internet links to other useful cartographic information are also maintained on this site.

Scott Library

Reference Guides
The Scott Reference area has prepared an extensive selection of research guides and tutorials to assist patrons with both basic and advanced research activities, such as finding books, newspapers, articles; using subject research guides to locate short lists of important resources (print and web) within a discipline; and the Find It @ York tool which quickly connects to available full text journals.

Guide to Book Reviews
Finding a book review can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. This guide provides you with a list of the most important sources within most of the major disciplines. The Guide takes you through the steps of searching for book reviews and includes listings of major book review resources as well as subject-specific, Canadian, alternative book review resources and book reviews before 1950.

Data Subject Guides
The Library Data Services area offers a comprehensive guide to various sources of data and statistics (with an emphasis on Canadian sources) from arts, culture and entertainment to travel and tourism, and much in between. The webpage also lists a number of general statistical sources such as Stats Can and E-STAT.

Government Publications Research Guides
