Library System Upgrades Coming Soon
This spring and summer, we will be effecting major upgrades to our library system software and hardware. This will result in some access disruptions to the library catalogue, though we will be providing online access to a back-up catalogue whenever possible.
A service disruption will occur over the Canada Day long weekend (July 1-3) and very likely over the two weeks following. We will post notices as far in advance as possible in the Library News box on the Libraries’ homepage about any disruption in access to the regular version of the catalogue.
Service at the Circulation and Reserves desks may be slower than normal at times when the back-up catalogue must be used since some transactions will have to be recorded manually.
This system upgrade will involve the installation of new database management software underlying the library catalogue and of newer versions of library system software for cataloguing, acquisitions, and circulation. These much-needed upgrades will allow improvements in many technical services, processing and maintenance functions. No changes are being made to the publicly-viewable library web-based catalogue in this upgrade process, but the improvements made will provide the necessary system infrastructure for any new functions that may be added in the future.
We regret any inconvenience that this system upgrade may occasion for you or your students this spring and summer, and be assured that we will do our utmost to minimize any catalogue access disruptions and provide suitable back-up provisions.
