The Libraries welcome Congress 2006!

Congress 2006, which is taking place at York University May 27 - June 9, 2006, will bring some 8,000 scholars in the humanities and social sciences to campus from across Canada and beyond. The Libraries will be providing a number of services to Congress and will be the venue for several events and displays.

Congress delegates will be able to use the computers of the Libraries to check e-mail or do some last minute preparations for a presentation or meeting using temporary Acadlabs accounts created for them by CNS. We will also be making available to Congress delegates with disabilities the adaptive equipment and services that normally assist students.

All during Congress, on the second floor of Scott Library will be an archival display that will change according to the constellation of scholarly associations meeting on campus on any given day. There will also be a display of books that have been published recently by York University faculty members. Scott Library will be the site of the Research Gallery, a showcase of current research projects based at York.

In addition, the opening reception for Congress will be held on the second floor of Scott Library on May 26. There will also be some events in Scott Library organized by scholarly societies and associations: for example, the Bibliographic Society of Canada will be visiting the Clara Thomas Archives and the Special Collections, and the Scandinavian Society will be sponsoring a traveling display of Finnish photography and a sculpture exhibit relating to Henrik Ibsen.

The Libraries will remain open to all students and researchers throughout Congress 2006.
