B.W. (Bruce William) Powe (1955- ), writer, was born in Ottawa, moved to Toronto in 1959 and remained there. He graduated from York University (B.A., 1977) and the University of Toronto (M.A., 1980), during which period he explored the multi-facets of the hyperactive life of post-war baby boomers and took up writing to express his observations and perceptions. He has been professor of English and humanities at York University, Toronto, since 1989. Powe's major works include: Queen Street West (1980, a series of essays), Night Sun (unpublished novel), A Climate Charged (1984), The Solitary Outlaw (1987), A Tremendous Canada of Light (1993), Outrage: A Journey Into Electric City (1995, sequel to The Solitary Outlaw), and Noise of Time.
The fonds consists of: manuscripts (1986-1994), drafts and research files for published and unpublished works, including Noise of Time, A Tremendous Canada of Light, Night Sun, A Climate Changed, The Solitary Outlaw, Outrage, and other reviews, essays, and articles; diaries, journals of Powe's, and literary and personal correspondence (1986-1994) between Powe and publishers and other writers; audio-visual material of interest to Powe, such as radio and television interviews with Powe and radio adaptations of Outrage.
