Please note: Effective October 1, 2009, University of Toronto libraries are charging research reader fees to anyone unaffiliated with U of T, including faculty and graduate students form other Canadian universities.

The Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program allows faculty members of participating North American institutions to have borrowing privileges and on-site access to the collections. Cards are issued to York faculty upon request at the Resource Sharing office located in the Scott Library.

The following procedures and regulations are in effect for members of the York community who wish to have borrowing privileges at another university.

Library Card: To use the libraries at these universities, present your YU-card at the appropriate desk and complete any necessary registration form. Collateral identification may be required. You will be issued a library card for use at the library.

Length of Loan: The undergraduate loan period of the lending library applies to all transactions.

Type of Material: Only circulating material as defined by the lending library may be borrowed.

Other material: (periodicals, government documents, rare books, phonodiscs, audio-visual and micro- materials) may be non-circulating and are to be used in the library. Reserve materials may not be available to participants in Direct Borrowing.

Fines: The fine and fee schedules for overdue or recalled books in operation in the lending library will apply to all borrowers. You are responsible for fines incurred. York Libraries may be contacted regarding delinquent borrowers and requested to assist in the retrieval of material or collection of fines.

Damaged or Lost Books: You are responsible for library material borrowed in your name. Lost books should be reported promptly to the Circulation Department of the lending library. Borrowers losing or failing to return books or returning items in damaged condition, are subject to replacement and processing charges as determined by the lending library.

Sanctions: The lending library may withdraw borrowing privileges from any student, faculty or staff member who abuses the provisions of the Direct Borrowing Agreement.

Return of Books: Books should be returned to the lending library, or to your home library. Books should be identified as Direct Borrowing materials.
