Canadian and International Business News Sources
The Globe and Mail and the National Post are Canada’s premier business newspapers. To access these resources go to the York University Libraries website http://www.library.yorku.ca and type the name of the newspaper into the search box and select periodical title from the drop down menu and press GO. Click on the link to access full-text articles available from the newspaper. You can also use the “search within this publication” box to search by topic or company name.

The Financial Times , the Wall Street Journal and the Economist may be searched in the same manner as noted above.
Please note that you will be required to login with your Passport York ID and password.
Company Research Databases
Two sources of information on companies you can use to conduct a financial analysis are Financial Post Advisor (Canadian companies only) and Mergent Online (public companies from around the world. You will financial statements, ratios, company descriptions etc.
For Canadian public companies use Financial Post Advisor . You are required to login with your Passport York ID and password. When you have successfully opened the database click on Company Snapshots on the left hand side of the screen and type in the name of the company you wish to access. When you have retrieved the company record, click on Historical Reports to retrieve a detailed overview of the company. Click on Corporate Analyzer to retrieve detailed financial and ratio information.
Another excellent database to use is Mergent Online . In addition to Canadian public companies you can search for information on public companies from countries around the world. Click on enter Mergent Online to begin your search.
All Canadian public companies are required to file their documents with SEDAR. In addition to annual reports you will find interim financial statements, management information circulars, etc.
Company websites are often excellent sources of information as well. Do a Google search to find the company website and then look for links such as Investor Relations, About Us, etc.
Finding Articles on business topics
Links to required readings listed in your handouts are available by going to www.library.yorku.ca and click on Reserves. They type the course number i.e. fine5200 in the search box and click on Go.



The click on Gordon Roberts to open the Reserve Reading list and click on the “Click to access this resource” link to get the full-text of the article.
To find academic, popular, professional, or news articles on any business topics search in Business Source Premier – When your search results are displayed, use the links on the left hand side of the screen to limit to academic, trade etc publications.
