CATALOGUE ENHANCEMENT

3400 MARC records for public domain NetLibrary books and 82 records for the OCLC Worldcat set for records from the Oregon Health and Physical Education microfiche collection were loaded into Yorkline

Multivolume Clean-up Project:

Mary Slinn and Linda Smith corrected 11 titles and 54 volumes.

A new Local Tools section has been added to the web page. At the moment it contains the list of classed together series used at York Libraries and the archived New Names and New Subjects lists. A description of these new lists can be found in the computing section of the monthly report

COMPUTING

Doug Fenwick, Howard Hui and Walter Griffatong identified the changes required to Bibliographic Services workstations to support SmartPort. Walter Griffatong then made the changes required on the departmental workstations.

Bob Thompson queried the Yorkline database and extracted a list of classed together series used in York University Libraries: http://theta.library.yorku.ca/series.htm The list will be posted on the Technical Services Web Resources Page under the new Local Tools category. Bob also created a "New Names" and a "New Subjects" Headings List. The lists will be generated weekly. Hasan Zia's contract ended on November 30, 2001.

OTHER

All staff in Bibliographic Services attended a SmartPort training session in November. Thank you very much to trainers Doug Adams, Linda Gamble and Linda Smith.

We are still experiencing various problems with the databases to which we are trying to connect via SmartPort. Doug Fenwick and Howard Hui of LCS are working with us to resolve these problems. We have also been in touch with the University of Calgary to see if they may have encountered similar problems. One of the things we will be doing in an attempt to resolve the problems is to review the SIRSI "Gateway" policies pertaining to each database.

After correspondence with the film librarian, Kathryn Elder, H. Fraser and E. Landon discussed providing links from the catalogue records of three video series, to websites that provide additional material for students, both as to the making of the series and their contents. H. Fraser showed E. Landon how to make the links to the PBS websites in the catalogue records for the following titles Free to dance; Islam : empire of faith; and The Greeks : crucible of civilization. Plans are to continue to make such links as suggested by the film librarian to websites that are provided by the firms producing the videos.
