CATALOGUE ENHANCEMENT
A link to a document entitled "Typographical Errors in databases" was recently brought to our attention by a message on the SIRSI Cataloguing Electronic List. The document is broken down into categories of words divided into high, moderate and low probabilities of misspellings. The list of words will be checked against Yorkline and misspellings corrected. The arrival of this document was very timely as it coincided with the arrival of a new tool which can be used to help correct the errors. While on a site visit to Stanford in June (see "Other" section for details) we learned about some software called "Keyboard Express" which can be used to write macros and then map the macros to various key combinations. Stanford uses it a lot to assist in entering some of the repetitive details involved with the serials check-in procedure. It can also be used to assist with various applications in the bibliographic record. After returning from Stanford, a demo version of Keyboard Express was downloaded and tested. Macros were created to correct some of the misspelled words in Yorkline from the aforementioned document. We are happy to have the opportunity to create macros to assist in bibliographic maintenance routines once again. The ability to write and map macros existed in NOTIS and was lost when we migrated to SIRSI. We look forward to enjoying "macro heaven" once again!!
Multivolume Clean-up Project: Linda Gamble, Mary Slinn and Linda Smith corrected 43 titles and 257 volumes.

OTHER
Heather Fraser accompanied Karen Cassel on a site visit to Stanford University to look at serials check-in procedures and then travelled to San Diego to attend the 2000 NASIG (North American Serials Interest Group) Conference.
The NASIG conference was excellent. The focus of this particular NASIG conference was electronic journals. Almost all of the sessions were related to some aspect of working with electronic journals. Topics included the acquistion, licensing, cataloguing and provision of access to these resources. In listening to the presentations and participating in discussions it was great to discover that we are keeping up with the cataloguing of ejournals and in some cases, are ahead of other institutions. The fact that we were one of the first institutions to develop policies and procedures for cataloguing Internet/electronic resources and begin to actively work with this format has really given us an "edge"! Our electronic journals database was also the subject of envy. A lot of institutions are thinking about developing such a database or have developed simple databases to assist in the management of electronic journals but none that I spoke to were quite as sophisticated the one that was developed by the York Libraries Electronic Journals Working Group.
Eirene Landon reports that our Seneca student, Gerald Estrada, was successful in finding summer employment at the City of Toronto Archives.
