Reserve Request

The libraries make special provision for assigned readings that are expected to be in heavy demand. When requested by an instructor, material is placed on course reserve, i.e., short-term loan.Reserve collections are located at Scott, Business, Frost, Law, Map, Sound and Moving Image and Steacie Libraries.

To place a title on reserve, you need to complete a Reserve Request card.Cards are available at circulation service desks.Periodicals are not placed on reserve, but the library may process specific articles for reserve. When the library does not have the required material, an instructor may place their personal copies on reserve. Instructors must notify the libraries of reserve requirements well in advance of the beginning of term. Procedures may vary at the branches.

As an alternative to completing and submitting a Reserve Request card at the appropriate circulation desk, you may submit information about course reserve materials using the attached form.

Photocopies of articles and chapters of books, and personal copies of books and other materials must be submitted along with completed reserve request cards directly to the appropriate reserve location.

Course kits (course packs) produced for York University courses may be placed on reserve under the following conditions:

  • The course kit is supplied by the course instructor
  • Only one course kit per course is placed on reserve
  • The course kit must be an original bound copy; a photocopy cannot be accepted
  • A sticker will be placed (by the Libraries) on the cover noting that the course kit content is not to be photocopied
