Entering References Manually into Refworks

1. Go to the “References” menu and choose “Add New”.

2. Use the pull down menu next to “View fields used by:” to choose a bibliographic style (e.g. APA, Chicago, MLA).

  • Select a folder for the New Reference.
  • Choose the reference type (journal, book, etc.) in the “Ref Type” drop down menu.
  • Choose the source type for the reference (print or electronic).
  • Fill out the fields as directed on the form . Fill in as much information as you have available.

Note: If you don’t have all the information that is needed for the format you want to use, the reference will not appear correctly in your paper when you use the RefWorks formatting tools.
