Microtext

Location:
Microtext is located in Room 118 of the Scott Library. The area is accessible during building hours and assistance is available if required. Users requiring assistance are directed to the grey wall phone just to the right of the entrance, which connects directly to the Welcome Services Desk.

There is a variety of equipment provided from which to view, print , scan and save from microfilm and fiche formats. Equipment options consist of:

  • Two Image Data Scanpro 2000 scanners
  • Three Minolta 605Z microfilm reader printers READ ONLY
  • Two Minolta 605Z microfilm read only
  • One HP Scanjet 8200 for scanning from printed materials.

Internet access from Scanpro 2000 is not provided. You must have an Acadlab account or a guest account from the Welcome Services Desk to login. Guest Accounts can be obtained from the Welcome Services Desk, just to the left of the main entrance. You will be asked to provide photo identification before a guest account will be issued.

If you would like to save scanned images, a USB flash drive would be a good option.

Printing is available from YUcards. If you do not have a YUcard you can obtain a Guest YUcard from the fill stations provided, which are located to the left of the main entrance and also on the 2 nd floor of the library. Please read instructions for purchase carefully. Change, if required, is provided from the Welcome Services Desk./p>

Once you have located an item in the catalogue and determined that it is located in Scott Microtext, make note of the format, whether microfilm or microfiche, and record the call number.

Signs have been posted in an effort to direct users in locating microtext materials. Microfilms are shelved in cabinets to the right of the entrance. Newspapers on film are alphabetically organized and can be found to the right of the entrance. Microfiche collections are held in upright cabinets.

A returns table is set up and we request that you do not re-shelve materials once you have finished with them.
