The photocopying of a copyrighted work such as a book, journal, or any substantial part of the work, without the permission of the copyright owner constitutes infringement of copyright. The Copyright Act states that “fair dealing” with any work for the purpose of private study or research does not constitute an infringement. Copying at University photocopiers is governed by the Copyright Act and a licence between York University and the Access Copyright.
