Policies and Procedures for External Libraries

York University Libraries (CaOTY) lends books and newspapers on microfilm and supplies photocopies of journal articles to libraries around the world. For our holdings, check our catalogue.
We lend material from Frost, Scott, Steacie and Bronfman Libraries.

York University Libraries does not provide interlibrary loan service for members of the public. We encourage these patrons to come to the Library in person or to consult the interlibrary loan service at their local public library.

Osgoode Hall Law School Library (CaOTYL) maintains a separate interlibrary loan service; for their interlibrary loan policy, schedule of charges, and requesting procedure, please contact the Law Library.

LOAN
We will lend for 3 weeks from date of receipt. Renewals are not permitted. Reference and rare books are considered individually and the loan period may be shorter with use restricted to library only. All loans are subject to recall.

PERIODICALS
We will not lend periodicals, with the following exceptions: we will lend annuals which usually circulate and we will lend microfilmed periodicals more than ten years old. Requests for newspapers on microfilm will be considered individually.

THESES
If we hold a circulating hard copy, we will lend.  Copies of York theses may be purchased from ProQuest (formerly University Microfilms International).

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS
We are a depository library for: Canada since 1963, Ontario since 1973, and EEC since 1967/68. We have a U.S. microcard collection: depository since 1956 and non-depository since 1953. Our other strengths include Great Britain and Quebec.

AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS
Our film and video collection is in high demand for classroom use and is not available for interlibrary loan. Audio materials are also non-circulating.
