What is the loan period?
Books and other materials designated for regular loan normally may be borrowed for 14 days.
How many times can I renew an item?
Unless requested by another borrower, regular loan materials may be renewed to a maximum of six renewals.Borrowers with extended loan privileges may renew items twice, and external borrowers may renew items twice.
Can I borrow reserve materials? Can I renew reserve materials? Can I place a hold on reserve materials?
Books and other materials in reserve collections may be borrowed by faculty, staff and students for short loan periods. External borrowers may not borrow reserve materials (Law reserve materials excluded). These materials may not be renewed and holds cannot be placed on reserve materials charged to other borrowers.
Can I request an item that is charged out?
Borrowers may request to have a hold placed on an item charged out for regular and extended loan period.
What happens when an item has more than one hold requested at any given time?
Holds will be placed in queue. Loan periods on these items will be shortened to 7 days for all categories of borrowers. They are not renewable.
How many items can I borrow on my card?
Students and staff have a loan limit of 50 items; faculty and graduate students with extended loan privileges have a limit of 80 items; external borrowers have a limit of 15 items.
Can I renew without the books in hand?
No, items must be in hand when renewing in person.
What do I do if I lose my library card?
Your library card is your YU-card. For replacement please contact the YU-card office immediately.
Other library cards issued by York University Libraries, which are lost or stolen, should be reported to Scott Circulation in person or by telephone at 416-736-5181.
What happens when the Libraries are closed?
Although materials are not due on days when the Libraries are closed, overdue fines accumulate.It is recommended that materials be returned or renewed prior to holiday periods.
How are fines calculated?
Fines accumulate once items become overdue.Bills are calculated when overdue materials are renewed or returned. If you wish to pay your fines immediately, please bring your overdue books to Scott Circulation Desk.
The fines are:
$0.50 per day to a maximum of $25.00 per item for regular stack materials.
$1.00 per day to a maximum of $25.00 per item for overdue recalled material.
$5.00 per day to a maximum of $100.00 per item for overdue daily loans.
$3.00 per hour/or any part thereof to a maximum of $100.00 per item for hourly loans.
When am I blocked from borrowing?
Borrowing privileges are blocked immediately for faculty, staff and students with charges of $25.00 or more and for External borrowers with charges of $5.00 or more.
What happens when I lose a book?
Library materials are assumed lost and you are charged for the cost of replacing these materials after 15 days following the due date for hourly reserves items, 20 days for daily reserve items and 50 days for regular stack materials.The charges include a $60.00 replacement charge, a $15.00 non-refundable service fee plus any outstanding overdue fines to a maximum of $25.00 per item for regular stack materials and $100.00 for reserve materials.
