ACTIVATING YOUR LIBRARY CARD
York Students
YU-card is your library card. You can obtain one at the YU-card office . Passport York will allow you access for certain library services including online renewal and off-campus access to eResources.
York Faculty
Full-time Faculty may obtain their card from the YU-card office . Contract Faculty members (CUPE 3903 unit 2) may apply for a York library card at the Scott, Bronfman, Frost or Law Circulation Desks. First time applicants should present a letter of introduction from the department, or any other document that confirms that a person is a York contract faculty member. A library card with 100-day extended loan privileges will be issued. With extended loan privileges, regular loan books are automatically charged out for 100 days. Materials checked out on 100 day loan maybe recalled if needed by another user.
Graduate Students
Graduate students may obtain a YU-card at the YU-card office . Materials checked out on 100 day loan maybe recalled if needed by another user.
York Staff
Full-time staff members may apply for a YU-card at the YU-card office . Fourteen day loan privileges will be issued with this card. A York University staff member has to belong to one of the following affiliations in order receive a YU-card: CPM, CUPE 1356, IUOE, YUSA unit 1.
Alumni
Upon presentation of a York Alumni Association card (which can be obtained from the Alumni Affairs Office, West Office Building, (416) 650-8159), York alumni may purchase a library card for $25.00. The card is valid for one year from date of issue. Remote access to eResources is not available. No portion of the fee will be refunded if a borrower ceases to use the card during this time.
Research Assistant
Arrangements may be made for Research Assistants to borrow library materials in a faculty member’s name for the regular faculty loan period. These cards are valid for the duration of the contract. Applications for a Research Assistant Library Card are available at Scott and Frost Circulation Desks. All charges incurred on the card are the responsibility of the faculty member.
Reciprocal Borrowers
Students (excluding University of Toronto undergraduate students), faculty and staff whose university is a member of OCUL, CAUL/CBUA, COPPUL and CREPUQ are entitled to Library privileges at York University. Present your current student card, staff card or faculty library card at the Scott Circulation Desk and complete the application form. Collateral ID, preferably Driver’s License, will be required. Out of province visitors are also required to present a valid CAUL/CBUA, COPPUL or CREPUQ identification card. You will be issued a library card for use at York. Remote access to eResources is not available. Undergraduate students applying for the library card after May 15 (summer session) must bring proof of summer enrollment. Extramural Readers
Members of the community (excluding high school and community college students) are eligible for external borrower cards upon payment of a fee of $100.00. The card is valid for one year from date of issue. Remote access to eResources is not available. No portion of the fee will be refunded if a borrower ceases to use the card during this time.
York University English Language Institute (YUELI)
Participants in the English as a Second Language Intensive Program offered by the English Language Institute may apply for a library card. Applications are approved by Shareefah Rene, who is located at 037, Vanier College. The card is valid for the duration of the course which is either 4 or 8 weeks.
Division of Continuing Education, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
Certificate in Dispute Resolution
Participants are required to submit a Library Card Application form signed by the Division of Continuing Education, LA&PS. The card is valid for the duration of the program.
Pre-University Studies – Admission Credential Course
Participants are required to submit a Library Card Application form signed by the Division of Continuing Education, LA&PS. The card issued is valid for the duration of the course.
