If you are not sure where to find Canadian government information, try these resources first:

  • GovInfo: Government on the Web: A searchable database of government databases, directories, reports, statistics, and statutes on the Internet (University of British Columbia).
  • Canadian Information by Subject: The National Library of Canada’s links to information about Canada.
  • Microlog: Canadian Research Index An index to Canadian publications from federal, provincial and municipal agencies, and from institutions receiving research grants. It includes research and government reports in the physical, natural and social sciences, statistical materials and annual reports. Documents are available in Scott Microtext area.
  • Government of Canada Publications Catalogue: A searchable database of government publications distributed by or submitted to the Depository Services Program of Canada. Note that some publications are only available through the author department. You can locate the author department web sites by clicking on Publications by Departments and Agencies.

Key Policy Documents

  • Speech From the Throne: Major policy initiatives are announced in the Speech from the Throne. It outlines the Government’s legislative plans for the current session of parliament.
  • The Budget : Federal government’s statement of its fiscal, economic, and social policies. (Department of Finance)
  • Estimates for the Government of Canada: Issued by each federal department; provides an overview of the department, its major programs, and its projected spending for the upcoming fiscal year. (Treasury Board of Canada)
  • Public Accounts of Canada: Annual reports on the financial transactions of the government. (Receiver General for Canada)
