Library as place
- Much learning takes place outside the classroom. It is the goal of York University Libraries to be the best place on campus for learning between classes.
- York University Libraries have been very successful in providing students a wonderful place to learn and work on assignments. Over 16,000 (one
third of the campus community) enter York University Libraries in a single day. - But we need more rooms, further renovations, and upgraded study spaces. You can select a number of ways to make a difference:
Up to $10,000
- $2,500 will fund a wired study desk where students can connect to internet resources, read books, complete assignments online and email their essays to their professors.
- $10,000 will fund a group study room where students learn to analyze and problem solve, work as a team and articulate their ideas in preparation for their future employment. (see previous donations)
Under $250,000
- $50,000 will help us replace traditional study desks, a row at a time with state of the art work spaces.
- $100,000 will fund the creation of a reading area complete with comfortable seating and/or scholarly study tables
- $200,000 will refurbish the quiet study spaces on the borders of the collections to create an attractive area with new carpet and wired study carrels. Students have requested we make this project a priority as some prefer this alternative layout ot our large reading rooms.
Under $500,000
- $250,000 will fund the furnishing of a study room in Scott Library creating an excellent learning environment
- $250,000 will replace a span of ordinary shelving with compact shelving thus preserving browsability of our collection while creating space for up to 60 more study seats.
Up to $1,000,000
- $500,00 to $1M will help convert existing library space used for storage into a Learning Commons where students have access to library resources. Information technology and most important people trained to provide assistance in research, writing, numeracy, statistics, geospatial data and basic computing.
