Steacie Science and Engineering Library Study Room Dedications


Syed
Mr. Hasanat Syed gave a generous
donation toward the extensive renovations of the Steacie Science and
Engineering Library. One of six group study rooms was names in his honour.
During the opening ceremonies of the newly renovated library, Mr. Syed
spoke about his desire to make a difference for students and their efforts
to learn.

Kibria
Mr. And Mrs. Abu and Shilu Kibria
were formally recognized for their generous donation to the Steacie
Science and Engineering Library by naming a library group study room in
their honour. Throughout their lives, Mr. & Mrs Kibria have helped many
people accomplish their goals. Their donation to York University Libraries
is one more example of their thoughtfulness. We are grateful for their
contribution to York.
Celebration Paul Marcus, President and CEO, York University
Foundation with Cynthia Archer, University Librarian, gratefully
acknowledged the generous donations received from Mr. Hasanat Syed, and
Mr. & Mrs. Abu & Shilu Kibria during the opening event to celebrate the
renovation and expansion of our new library space in Steacie.
Hoffert Paul Hoffert - personal papers. Now an
adjunct professor of Fine Arts at York, Hoffert founded Lighthouse in
1968, a band which went on to earn nine gold and platinum record awards
and three Junos. He is one of Canada’s most experienced and celebrated
film composers, having scored more than 30 feature films and many
television production.
Mace
The mace
Canadian artist Gerald Trottier  -
sketches. Trottier’s wife Irma and daughter Denise presented five
preliminary sketches of the mace to York’s Clara Thomas Archives and
Special Collections. The gift from the Trottier family is a means of
creating a historical record of this significant ceremonial object, which
has become an integral part of York’s convocation ceremonies for over 40
years.
