Scott Focus Groups Volunteers Needed!

Attention Undergraduate Students!

Help us develop better space in Scott Library. Help us help you!

Participate in the Scott Library’s focus groups.

Why are we holding focus groups?

Part of the Scott Library will be redesigned and we are seeking your input on how we redesign it. We promise this will be lots of fun!  Prepare to be creative and uninhibited as you share your thoughts with us!

What’s in it for me?

Participants will be offered refreshments and will be entered in a draw for 1 of 2 iPod Shuffles.  Also you will have the reward of knowing that you have helped us improve spaces and services at the Scott Library.

What format will this take?

We ask you to join with other undergraduate student volunteers in one of four facilitated focus groups.  The focus groups will be an hour and a half long.

How can I participate?

Please contact Karen Purino at 416-736-5601 or kpurino@yorku.ca if you are interested in participating.

Please indicate which focus group(s) you would be available to attend:

Group #1: Tues. March 10th, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Group #2: Wed. March 11th, 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Win 1 of 2 iPod Shuffles!

Leave a comment if you have any questions!

Announcing: Library Study Space Around the Clock!

Calling all night owls!

The York University Libraries are pleased to announce 24 hour study space, 5 days a week, on the 1st floor of the Scott Library for the remainder of the Fall academic term. This extended service will begin February 8th and end March 3rd.

Study space, computers, photocopiers, printers, and group study rooms will be available around the clock from Sunday 10am until Friday 11pm. The Central Square section of the Scott Library has 155 study seats and 16 computers at your disposal.  Friday and Saturday nights this area will close at 11pm.

In addition the rest of the Scott Library (including the library collections) will be open extended hours during the remainder of the Fall term.

Those who rely on public transit should be aware of transit schedules. (Please note the last TTC bus leaving campus is at 1:45 am, and the first bus arriving on campus in the morning is at 5:45 am.)

During late night hours patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the services offered by the goSAFE program, which operates from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am every day.

For more details on Library services and operations, please check the Library website.

Scott Library virtual tour updated

The Scott Library virtual tour has been updated. It has maps of each floors and tells you where to find all of the different offices and services in the Scott Library. For example:

The Scott Library is photogenic. Flickr user Gavatron posted this lovely picture last year — probably not what you think of when you picture the library in your head.

Late evening hours in the Scott Library

From September to April the first floor of the Scott Library (as far as the fire doors at the foot of the escalator) remains open until 1:00 a.m. Sunday to Thursday for study in the newly renovated reading and computing rooms. The area is staffed for safety, but no circulation services (including reserves) are available after 11:00 p.m., when the rest of Scott Library closes. Students studying late at Scott Library are reminded to take advantage of the goSAFE escort/van service to get to residences, parking lots, and public transit stops safely.
