Best 10 things I’ve read in university

Over at the YU Blog, Hana posted 10 Best Things I’ve Read In University:

1. Middlemarch – George Eliot

Middlemarch is huge saga of a book set in a fictitious town during the 1830’s. George Eliot called it a study of provincial life, and that’s exactly what it is: it covers romance, family, inheritance, marriage, political reform, advances in medicine, social climbing, the condition of the poor debt, the status of women, unrequited love, religion, greed and idealism. The plot is complex – it covers about three families from three social classes, and two generations of children. It’s definitely a summer project kind of book, and you need the patience to deal with long asides on English agrarian reform before getting back to the love story – the best kind: two star-crossed lovers who have to face huge obstacles to be together. It’s the best. It teaches you everything you need to know about life.
