Emergency Shutdown of Scholars Portal Services, Sunday July 28

Scholars Portal has been advised by their storage vendor to proceed with an upgrade to their Pillar storage array as soon as possible, following last week’s cooling and hardware issues. This will help prevent similar drive failures in the future.  As a result of this upgrade, a number of Scholars Portal services will be unavailable for a period of time this weekend.

The following services will be unavailable from Sunday July 28, 8 AM to Monday July 29, 8 AM:
- Journals
- Books
- ODESI
- GeoPortal
- SCOT and SPUD analysis tools
- Dataverse
- RefWorks

This weekend’s maintenance is in addition to the planned service outage for the August holiday weekend, which is due to a scheduled full electrical shutdown of the Robarts Library building.

At that time, ALL Scholars Portal services will be unavailable from Monday August 5, 5 AM to Tuesday August 6, 5 AM.

Please contact help@scholarsportal.info if you have any questions.

New acquisition: African American Studies Center

We have recently added Oxford’s African American Studies Center to our online collections.

The Oxford African American Studies Center provides students, scholars and librarians with more than 10,000 articles. The core content includes:

New from Ebsco: Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection: Series 1

We have recently added Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection: Series 1 to our collections.

The Latino-Hispanic American Experience: The Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection Series 1 presents a digital collection of historical content pertaining to U.S. Hispanic history, literature, political commentary, and culture. This collection conveys the creative life of U.S. Latinos and Hispanics – shedding new light on the intellectual vigor and traditional values that have characterized them from the earliest moments of this country’s history through contemporary times. The Latino-Hispanic American Experience focuses exclusively on the Latino-Hispanic history in the United States.

The Latino-Hispanic American Experience collection draws its content from the “Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project.” The project functions under the direction of Dr. Nicolás Kanellos, founder and director of Arte Público Press and includes publications from all regions of the nation.
