UEG Notes, 3 March 2009

UEG Notes, 3 March 2009

Present: S Bury, H Cao, S Coysh, W Denton, R Laskaris, D Perlin, D Yanofsky.

  • We reviewed how the internal survey, for YUL employees, was going. 40 responses so far. Survey to close Friday. Bill will pick a random winner of the $25 prize. (UEG members not eligible.)
  • Faculty usability testing: Sarah revised the undergraduate usability questions for faculty, and we went through the questions and settled on what to ask them.
  • Grad student usability testing: Sophie had done the same for grad students, and we did the same for it.
  • Faculty and grad student usability testing is to be completed in March.
  • Bill to book a day at Glendon, with Sarah, and they will find a couple of grad students and faculty to test.
  • UEG members with faculty contacts will find faculty in whatever way they think best, and Bill will go with them to do the testing. John will do science and engineering, Sophie Schulich and possibly Atkinson, and some social sciences/humanities faculty need to be found. Bill will ask someone in Scott Reference.
  • The UEG will get together for two half-days in April to look at all of the information collected and decide what should be on a revised home page. We will look at good web sites to emulate, and can demonstrate tools and interfaces that might help our thinking about new designs. Following the meetings, everyone can work on mockups of new designs, which we will then test.
  • We should think of social networking and “zones of engagement.”
  • Bill and Ricardo to talk about student survey findings at March library forum.
  • Sarah and Haiyun to talk about faculty survey findings at April Library Forum.
