Access and Use of Holdings

York University Archives is very pleased to announce that electronic access to our archival finding aids is growing by leaps and bounds. As a result of funding through the Canadian Culture Online Program of Canadian Heritage, the National Archives of Canada and the Canadian Council of Archives, we are now able to offer electronic access to several hundred archival finding aids via a variety of sources.

If you know which fonds you are interested in, use our Fonds register,

or our atom database (work in progress),

or find the fonds via the university library catalogue.

If you want to do some searching for archival records across Ontario, use ARCHEION.

If you want to do some searching for archival records across the Canada, use Archives Canada

In both the provincial and national databases, users can restrict their searches to find records at York University Archives & Special Collections.

Check back often as finding aids are being added or updated frequently.

With some exceptions, most ASC holdings are available for research. Access to some materials may be restricted for a period of time in order to protect the privacy rights of individuals or because donors have imposed access restrictions on their own material. Any restrictions will be noted in the finding aid to the collection.

Because of the unique nature of the materials preserved in ASC, materials can be consulted only in the Reading Room. Some archival holdings are stored off-site and requests for these materials must be made in advance.
