Carol Malyon (1933- ), writer, was born in Toronto and educated at the University of Toronto (BscN). She has been a nurse, worked in health research, then owned a book store (Beaches Book Shop) before becoming a full-time writer of novels, short stories, poetry, and fiction for young children. Malyon was writer-in-residence at the University of New Brunswick in 1997. Her selected publications include: Headstand (1990); The Edge of the World (1991), shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer's Prize for Best First Book of Fiction (1992); Emma's Dead (1992); If I Knew I'd Tell You (1993), shortlisted for the SmithBooks/Books in Canada First Novel Award (1993); Lovers & Other Strangers (1996); and Mixed-up Grandmas (1998). Her work has appeared in various anthologies including: Vivid: Stories by Five Women (1989); 91: Best Canadian Stories (1991), Vintage 91 (1992); and Porcupine's Quill Reader (1996).
