Creating a Label for a Computer Disk/Compact Disc Folder


Obtain one of the appropriate storage folders containing a pocket to hold the disc/k(s) from the Bibliographic Services secretary. If there are not enough pockets or if it/they are not the approriate size, one can be made up in Binding and Labelling as required.

Labelling Procedures

  1. Open Word Perfect
  2. Click on Format
  3. Click on Labels
  4. From the box that offers a selection of label types, scroll down and click on click on Avery 5896 3 1/2" Diskette
  5. Click on Select; wait until a label appears
  6. Create a label containing the title information for the item. Place the completed label on the front of the folder

Printing the Label

  1. Make sure the laser printer is turned on
  2. Make sure the laser printer is turned on
  3. Make sure that they are Avery 5896
  4. Pull down the form feed shelf located on the front of the laser printer
  5. Place the labels face up on the top of the form feed shelf and pointed in the direction of the red arrows. If you are not starting with a fresh sheet of labels you will have to ensure that when you are at the stage of creating the label that you create multiple labels and type the information on a label position that corresponds to the unused label(s) on the sheet
  6. Click on print
  7. Click on OKAY
  8. Looking at the control panel on the top righthand side of the printer, you should see that the form feed button is on and the messge MF Manual Feed is the message in the display window
  9. Now press the ONLINE button and the label sheet should feed through
  10. Once the label(s) has been created, write the call number of the item on the label of the original disk. If the colour of the label is too dark and the call number will not show up, write the call number on a portion of one of the SMALL sticky labels and try to place it in such a manner as to not obscure the information on the label.
  11. Place the copied disk with the item and send it through to processing.
  12. File the original disk in call number order in the temporary holder on the second cabinet beside the secretary's desk
