Borrow and Renew Library Materials

Borrow and Renew Materials

Borrowing

Present your YU-card to borrow materials.

To get help on finding library books and other resources, see Getting Help With Research.

You are the only person who’s authorized to use your card and since you’re responsible for all library transactions made with it, report a lost or stolen card immediately by using the link on the YU-card website.

Self Check Machines

We encourage you to use our self-check machines at Scott and Steacie Libraries. They’ll help save you time! No need to wait in line at the Circulation Desk – it only takes a couple of seconds at one of these machines. It’s faster than an ATM!

Renewing

You may renew library materials (excluding reserves and short loan materials in the Sound and Moving Image Library) if an item has not been requested by another borrower, and if you have not reached your renewal limit (six times for normal two-week loans).

You can renew library items in two ways: by renewing online or in person at the circulation desk in any of our Libraries.

Returning library materials

Library materials must be returned on or before the date and/or time due. Library materials may be returned to the book drops at each of the York University Libraries.  Book returns are located near the library entrance of each library branch.  There are also book drops outside each location for after hour returns.

Please note: some items (e.g. DVDs, reserve items) must be returned to the area from which they were borrowed, so be sure to return these during the hours the Libraries are open.
