Privacy Policy

York University Libraries' Digital Scholarship Centre collects data for two purposes.

Workshop registrations and bookings of equipment or space

We collect email addresses and names as part of workshop registration or equipment bookings, and data is shared with Springshare's LibCal platform because they provide the software to us. Springshare's Privacy Policy is available online.

Collected data is used only for the purposes of communicating with you about your bookings, and to allow you to manage bookings yourself. This information is scrubbed at the conclusion of the booking or workshop by replacing all names and email addresses with the name "Attendee" and the email address me@example.com.

No historical records of workshop attendance (aside from the total number of people who were present) are kept.

Site Analytics

We use the free and open-source Matomo system for website analytics, and have chosen the product for its ability to record and store data locally, without sharing information with third-party services (such as Google). We use its reports for the following purposes:

  1. to assess and evaluate the design of the site on an ongoing basis
  2. to provided aggregated metrics (limited to "hit counts" and other basic data) on how heavily-used of the site's pages and features are

Matomo will respect your web browser's settings, and will not collect any data if you have 'Do Not Track' features enabled. Regardless, you may opt out of data collection at any time.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.
