Curriculum Development

Archivists at the Clara Thomas Archives & Special Collections are available to consult on the creation of assignments, readings, tutorials and class projects that draw on our unique holdings.

Assignment Options

  • Class visit

Our classroom can only accommodate a maximum of 25 students at a time. Classes larger than this can be split over several sessions. Alternatively, an archivist can visit your class and provide an introductory lecture on archival research. Class sessions can range from a 'show and tell' format featuring documents related to course content to more focused tutorials covering advanced research methodology.

  • Integrated assignment

With sufficient notice, archivists can collaborate with course instructors to customize an orientation session that will address specific graded assignments. Archivists will be able to review potential assignments and identify potential challenges and/or suggest sources available in our collections.

  • Experiential learning

With sufficient notice, archivists can collaborate with course instructors to develop a more involved, collaborative and scaled project engaging a small group of students in a research project focused on specific archival fonds held at York University.
