RESOURCEFUL ART at YUL

RESOURCEFUL ART at YUL

The Collections Engagement Group at York University Libraries is very pleased to share information about a new display that has been recently installed opposite the entrance of the Maps Collection on the first floor of Scott Library.

RESOURCEFUL ART is a creative representation of York University’s commitment to critical inquiry, innovation and responsible stewardship. Inspired by York’s motto Tentanda Via (The way must be tried), recycled cardboard has been transformed into thoughtful and inviting images that reflect key elements of York’s mission and values, namely: perseverance, exploration and intellectual curiosity.

This work exemplifies how imagination and resourcefulness can shape new pathways in art and learning for future generations.

About the Artist

Joanne is a member of the York University Libraries’ Access Services Team and has a deep family connection to York University.  Her exhibit was inspired by her uncle Gerry DeWildt, a construction worker on a crew that helped to pour concrete for several original York buildings, including Founders College.   She began her career at York in the Map Library, where she worked while studying Geography at Founders college.  She is also the proud mom of two York graduates.

Joanne is delighted to share and creatively celebrate her connection to the spirit of York – The Way Must be Tried -- through this exhibit.
