Steacie Library Print Collection Update

Steacie Library Print Collection Update

As part of ongoing space renewal efforts, we are continuing work on a weeding project at the Steacie Science and Engineering Library.  This project will improve the usability of our collections, create more study space, and ensure that our spaces and services better reflect the way library materials are now used.

We are focusing our efforts on print books that are readily available as eBooks.  The collections team at YUL has been working diligently to purchase large backfiles of eBook from major university presses to ensure that we have stable access to many print titles that are being removed. To that end, we are pleased to report that we have purchased large backfile collections of eBooks from presses such as Cambridge, Harvard and Princeton, with many more presses to come.

To date, over 10,900 print books have been removed from the Steacie collection. All weeding lists have been reviewed by a team of subject librarians, and quality control processes are in place to ensure that print titles that are still needed remain in the collection.

Work on this project will continue throughout the summer and will expand to other library locations.

We are committed to transparency throughout the project. Questions or concerns can be directed to Patti Ryan, Content Development Librarian, pryan@yorku.ca.
