Academic Integrity in your writing and assignments

  • SPARK - Academic Integrity Tutorial –The Academic Integrity Tutorial from SPARK is designed to help you learn about academic integrity. The information in this tutorial is applicable for all subject and research areas and any level of study.
  • Academic Integrity Checklist – This document provides information that will help you adhere to the principles of Academic Integrity in your assignments. You can use this checklist before you submit an assignment for grading.
  • Integrity in Practice – This document suggests numerous ways in which you can act in order to ensure the integrity of your academic practice. It includes questions you can ask your instructors and provides advice on how to prevent academic dishonesty.
  • Peer Feedback Guide and Form – This document provides guidelines that you can use when you have some else read or comment on a draft that you have written.
  • Academic Writing Guide –The Libraries have brought together a set of helpful websites offering assistance with different kinds of written academic work with suggestions for appropriately crediting others for their ideas.
  • Citing Your Work –The Libraries offer detailed assistance with preparing footnotes and bibliographies in the right form and how to use Zotero or Mendeley to make this easier.
  • Creating Bibliographies & Plagiarism –This SPARK tutorial is a quick introduction to citing sources, plagiarism, citations and bibliographies, citation styles, citation management systems, and annotated bibliographies.

Academic Integrity in your research

  • Copyright @ York – York University's main copyright web site includes copyright basics and fair dealing information. Copyright legislation and license agreements govern what can be copied or otherwise “borrowed” of works of creators while respecting their intellectual property rights.

 Academic Integrity in your teaching

  • The Teaching Commons  Going Remote website provides many resources and tools York instructors can draw on to help with remote teaching including advice and resources to encourage academic integrity and useful information about copyright and intellectual property.
  • SPARK - Academic Integrity Tutorial –The Academic Integrity Tutorial from SPARK is designed for your students so they can about academic integrity. The information in this tutorial is applicable for all subject and research areas and any level of study.
  • Teaching with SPARK - This module is intended to assist instructors in the use of the SPARK modules and resources in their courses.  Includes instructor guides, suggestions for assignment design, quizzes that can be embedded in Moodle, etc.
  • Academic Integrity Checklist – Students can print out this page (or it can be included in your syllabus) as proof that students have reflected on Academic Integrity before submitting their assignment.
  • Peer Feedback Guide – Students can print out this page (or it can be included in your syllabus) when they ask someone else to read and comment on a draft of an assignment or an essay.
  • Acceptable Use of E-resources – The Libraries have signed license agreements with providers of our e-resources (e.g., electronic books, journals, indexes, and databases). This “acceptable use statement” indicates how these resources can be used while respecting the rights of the providers.
  • Creating permanent links to York Libraries Resources – Persistent links (aka permalinks) are stable links that make it easier for the York University community to access OMNI records, e-articles, e-books and other scholarly content. These links facilitate access to subscribed resources via York’s proxy server and thus provide seamless authentication when off-campus. This guide helps York instructors find and create permalinks for use in course websites etc. using OMNI and offers alternate solutions where permalinks cannot be sourced from OMNI.
