It is located in the Steacie Building on Keele Campus and consists of two floors. The main floor of the library includes the circulation desk, staff and librarian offices, group study rooms, silent study areas, computers for student use, the book collection, and the most recent journals. The basement floor contains the print journal collection in compact shelving, a teaching computer lab, and more student study space. The library was named after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca\/english\/about\/hallfame\/u_i12_e.cfm\">Ned Steacie<\/a>, a prominent research chemist.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Library opened on October 14, 1966.\u00a0 It houses 90,000 circulating books in general science, mathematics and statistics, computer science and technology, physics, chemistry, earth science, biology, kinesiology, neuroscience and nursing; 3500 reference books, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, and compendia of data; 600 print journals (120,000 bound volumes); and both general and specialized science indexing and abstracting services mostly in electronic format. Most of the science journals are available online through different publishers, consortia agreements, and content providers. \u00a0Steacie Library also has a Microcard collection in the basement that includes the <em>Landmarks of Science<\/em> series, which is an extensive collection of historically significant scientific manuscripts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Steacie Science &amp; Engineering Library serves the Faculties of Science and Engineering at York University.
