Explore Open Access this October

Explore Open Access this October

Celebrate International Open Access (OA) week this October by participating in the Libraries’ workshops and programming during October 20 to October 31, 2025! Whether you’re new to open access or well-versed in the core concepts, the Libraries have an engaging slate of events happening to support the York community in engaging with OA.

Consider participating in one of the following ways!

Attend a Workshop:

Sign-up for one of the Libraries’ workshops to learn more about OA topics, such as how OA publishing improves the visibility of your research or how to align with open data principles. These workshops will help demystify core OA topics, while also providing you with training and quality resources.

 Join the Research Impact Challenge:

The Libraries are also running a virtual, asynchronous Research Impact Challenge from October 20 to October 24, 2025. Sign up for the challenge today and take part in the 5 fully asynchronous research impact challenges. Each challenge is designed to help faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students learn tips, strategies, and methods to curate their online presence, while also engaging with open access and open data practices to make their research more discoverable to academic communities in their disciplines.

Each daily challenge takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Some of the daily challenges include creating an ORCID iD, learning how open access publishing can enhance research discoverability, and leveraging scholarly research repositories to share research outputs.

If you would like to participate in the Research Impact Challenge, please do the following:

  • Step 2: During the week of the challenge, participants will receive a daily email with information on the day’s task.
  • Step 3: When you complete the daily challenge, fill out the associated MS Form. Each time you fill out one of the daily challenge MS Forms, your name will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a set of Belkin Wireless headphones or a prize of equivalent value.

Visit our Collection Display at Steacie Library:

The Libraries will also be hosting a collection display in the Steacie Library to highlight eBooks and other library resources that can help you learn more about open access and open data. Make sure to stop by Steacie Library from October 20 to October 31 and check out the great resources that will be on display!
