Licensing your thesis or dissertation with ProQuest

York University makes available its electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) through YorkSpace, a platform specially designed to ensure the widest possible open access dissemination of scholarship with broad indexing by all major search engines, including registered indexing with Google Scholar.

Authors of theses and dissertations (ETDs) disseminated via YorkSpace remain the owners of their scholarly work. As such, they may choose to license their dissertations and theses with other services. One such service is Proquest Dissertations & Theses Global (PQDT). PQDT is a global database of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). Please note that PQDT does not offer a complete record of all global ETDS. To learn more about where to search for ETDs, visit our eTheses and Dissertations webpage for more information.

To submit a dissertation or thesis to PQDT:

  1. Create an account on the ProQuest Direct Publishing page
  2. Fill out the information requested through the tabs on the left hand side to submit your dissertation or thesis, paying special attention to the following:
    • PQ Publishing Options: You will have the choice between "Traditional Publishing" or "Open Access Service". We recommend choosing "Traditional Publishing" because your dissertation/thesis is already open access via YorkSpace. As such, you do not have to choose the "Open Access Service" option to ensure open access to your dissertation/thesis.
    • Administrative Documents: Please note that you will need to upload proof of your degree for PQDT to evaluate your submission for inclusion.

ProQuest offers additional instruction on its website, but please note that not all of this documentation is relevant to authors licensing their work with ProQuest in the way that is described on this page.
