Background/ Rationale:   

The purpose is YUL policy on Minimum Level Cataloguing for Permanent Bibliographic Records is to define the minimum metadata quality standard for permanent bibliographic records in both the institutional and network zone. 

Exceptions to this Policy

  • Vendor records for electronic resources; please see OCUL Policy on Bibliographic record standards for Network Zone electronic resources and YUL Guiding Principles for Managing Electronic Resources 
  • Vendor records for shelf ready materials 
  • Non-permanent bibliographic records such as brief order records or brief records for special projects that are remaining in the institutional zone 

Policy Statement 

  • Follow the OCUL Collaborative Futures Metadata Policy: Minimum Level Cataloguing for Permanent Bibliographic Records Version 1.0 
  • This policy applies to copy, semi-original and original cataloguing in both the Institutional and Network Zone 
  • Copy cataloguing: “Minimum descriptive standards are outlined in the BIBCO Standard Record (BSR) for all bibliographic formats and in the CONSER Standard Record (CSR) for serials according to RDA (or AACR2 in case of copy cataloguing)” – OCUL CF minimum level cataloguing for permanent bibliographic records 
  • Original cataloguing: “For original records, follow RDA” – OCUL CF minimum level cataloguing for permanent bibliographic records
