York University Libraries offer a variety of interactive online instructional workshops to help students learn critical research and citation skills. Registration is available to all York University students.

Road to Research Success: How to Find Scholarly Articles and Books Through YorkU Libraries

Need help navigating your way to academic sources? This workshop will provide you with a basic roadmap to library resources – and put you in the driver’s seat. Learn how to: find your way around the library website; start your search with subject guides and research strategies; access and use OMNI and databases to find the sources you need for your essays and assignments; evaluate different sources and understand different formats; and ask for help when you need it. If you’re just getting started – or maybe don’t know where to start – with library research, this workshop is for you.

Academic Integrity: How You Can Learn to Stop Worrying and Love Citations

Citation is about more than knowing where to add your commas, it prepares you to be an active participant in conversations within your scholarly community and in your professional career. In this workshop on citation and academic integrity, we’ll discuss the hows and whys of citation to teach you the skills you need to succeed at York and beyond.

Topics covered will include:

  • How to identify plagiarism and academic dishonesty
  • How to write in-text citations and works cited/reference/bibliography lists; and
  • How to properly paraphrase a source

Introduction to Zotero

Zotero is a free and open-source software that can help you keep your research and citations organize.
