Portuguese Collection Development Policy

Subject Librarian: Peggy Warren

Programs Supported and Current Collection

York University does not offer a degree program in Portuguese, and so library collections are minimal. York lists only two beginning Portuguese language courses, which are not offered every year. Consequently, the Scott Library does not provide significant support for these two courses. The current collection contains a small number of books in Portuguese, and these consist mainly of dictionaries and elementary language textbooks intended for foreign speakers. The works of major Portuguese-language authors are available primarily in English translation, with the exception of major prize-winning novelists (e.g., Saramago). There are no subscriptions to Portuguese-language journals. At this point in time, there are no plans to develop the collection further.
