The Open Scholarship Department supports research intensification within YUL and across the broader campus by promoting, communicating, and leveraging its expertise in scholarly communications and open access. Services offered by the department to support researchers throughout the research lifecycle include the following activities:

Open Access Publishing and Author Rights Consultation: We help authors evaluate the range of publishing options available for their scholarly works. From mega journals to open monographs, we can help you get a complete view of your options, including a review of publisher agreements.

We can also assist with the mediated deposit of publications in YorkSpace. If you need to comply with the requirements of an open access policy, we can help you find an option that works for you.

Scholar Visibility Consultation: We support York researchers in their assessment of the most appropriate strategies and tools for enhancing the visibility of scholarship. Whether you want to learn more about alternative metrics or understand the benefits of registering for an ORCID identifier, we're here to help you surface the impact story you wish to tell about your research.

Research Data Management: The Open Scholarship team assists York researchers with identifying the best data management strategies for their projects and support the completion of data management plans to help meet grant funding requirements.

We help faculty and students deposit their data in a repository that meets their data sharing and preservation needs. We also train graduate students on the skills necessary to undertake data management activities on a research project.

Data Collections Consultation: We support your data discovery, reuse, and manipulation needs.
