Significant Donations to the Bronfman Business Library

Seymour Schulich Donates Canadian History Collection to the Bronfman Business Library

The Bronfman Business Library has benefited from generous donations by Seymour Schulich OC (Hon LLD' 03), totaling some 200 monograph titles. These materials expand and enrich the library’s existing collection in significant ways. This collection’s scope and coverage is wide-ranging with most items relating to one or more aspects of the history of Canada including the development of business or industries in Canada.

Some of the donated books contain transportation histories including Canadian railways and seafaring/shipbuilding. A considerable number of items explore the history of resource industries in Canada including minerals and mining industries, fisheries, and oil and gas industries. In addition, several items relate to the history of banking in Canada, while other monographs profile the histories of specific companies and banks.

In order to maximize accessibility of this impressive donated collection, more recently published titles have been added to the Bronfman Business Library’s circulating book collection to provide easy access to students and faculty. Materials that are rare or unique in nature have been added to the Bronfman Business Library’s Rare Book Collection. These items will be made available on request for in-library use only.

A selection of rare books contained in this donation is on display currently at the Bronfman Business Library. Many of the featured books cover the history of specific Canadian industries including banking, mining, and transportation. In addition, items on display relate to the history of Canadian trade and exploration with donated volumes covering the history of the fur trade, the Hudson’s Bay Company, and the exploration of the Canadian Arctic.
